My darkest fears are realized. The fish of the fens have become jaundiced and sickly, and many of the townsfolk have become ill eating them. This must be the pestilence that’s driving the alligators closer to town. Without their usual food source, they’ll turn on anything they can sink their teeth into, including settlers. For now, the town has enough provisions on hand to keep everyone fed. But those pickled gar and catfish were meant for trade with the neighboring townsfolk. Deprived of our primary food source, the town will surely wither away. And who would wish to stay, with ravenous alligators prowling about, raiding our stores?
