The Five Virtues

Teachings for a better life.

In addition to the five elements that make up all things, there are five virtues that live within all of us. Holding to these virtues means becoming a person of character, and of benefit to your family and community. To live for oneself and oneself alone is a meager existence. So hold to the five virtues, and transcend yourself. Benevolence-- the act of forming one body with those around you, providing for mutual benefit. Righteousness-- doing what is proper and showing good judgment, even when it is hard. Propriety-- showing respect for those who came before you, and the knowledge they earned over a lifetime. Wisdom-- understanding virtuous behavior, and knowing how behave with dignity without the need for a teacher. Faithfulness-- understanding commitment, so that others might rely upon you, even in times of great trouble.
