I remember stepping onto the deck of the ship for the first time. The wind on my face felt like freedom. But… like anything else, it wasn’t everything it seemed.
Captain Grace was everything I dreamed of in a commanding officer. Fearless. Ambitious. Firm, but fair. When she chased those pirates into the storm, we all stood at our stations, sure she would bring us through to the other side. We were wrong.
Now we’re here, in a strange New World, where even death will not grant release. And what’s worse: danger lurks ‘round every corner. But There was work to be done, and so I traded my sailor’s smock for a pair of traveling boots and found something useful to do. Then I saw that bulletin in town. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I rallied to the banner of the Soulwardens, but the work is hard, and the danger is great.
Still, the people here have many burdens, and if I can ease some of them, that’s something. Even if it means my own burdens are endless. When I stepped onto her ship, I knew my ordinary life was over. But even in my wildest dreams, I never could have imagined this.
